Building More Than Just Houses: Stone Martin Builders Partners with Habitat for Humanity in Auburn Opelika

Jan 22, 2024

When you walk into a home, what do you feel? The warm embrace of familiar walls, the comfort of a place that’s truly yours, and countless memories tucked into every nook and cranny. Every family, we believe, should have the privilege of this feeling. It's not just about having shelter but owning a space where dreams grow and flourish.

A Renewed Partnership

With the partnership of Auburn Opelika Habitat for Humanity, we united our skills and passion to make homeownership a reality for families in need. In 2022, Stone Martin Builders sponsored and built the "Home for Christmas" in Auburn and we were able to expand upon our previous achievements, reinforcing our commitment to the community in 2023. Our collaborative efforts with Auburn Opelika Habitat for Humanity resulted in the success for our growing community.  We worked in harmony to deliver three homes, to three families, with one effort.  In just 90 days and 10,000 labor hours later, we helped grant the wish and dream of homeownership and plan to offer more home dedications in years to come.

A Day of Celebration on Cherry Ave.

On the morning of December 15th, Cherry Avenue in Opelika was buzzing with a sense of hope, laughter, and camaraderie as it hosted the dedication ceremony for three new homes. This event was a joint venture involving Stone Martin Builders, Auburn Opelika Habitat for Humanity, and the Opelika City authorities. The initiative brought the community, local volunteers, and various businesses together to celebrate as three local families moved into their new homes.

John Manasco, COO of Stone Martin Builders, shared his thoughts: "We are privileged to join forces with Habitat for Humanity, the City of Opelika, and the dedicated community members in this transformative partnership. The collaboration has resulted in three hardworking families achieving homeownership, showcasing the power of shared commitment and collaboration for a brighter future. Our gratitude extends to all involved for the opportunity to contribute to the joy and hope these new homes bring to the Opelika community."

The ceremony was a testament to the strength, compassion, and community spirit of Opelika. The joyous occasion, held in Opelika, was the fruition of a three-month journey of transformation. It marked the successful conclusion of the "Home for Christmas 2023" campaign by Habitat for Humanity, as three families embarked on a new chapter in their dream homes, just in time for the holiday season.

The dedication ceremony attracted nearly 100 people, including city officials and Mayor Gary Fuller. This was followed by an awards ceremony that celebrated the immense contributions of sponsors and underscored the steadfast support from local businesses and the community. The event shone a light on the tremendous efforts of numerous local tradespeople who devoted hundreds of hours to building these homes. Each home stood as a testament to the selfless contributions and collaborative efforts that significantly improved the lives of three families in need.

The families, including single mothers and their children, who were integral to this transformative project, were celebrated for their dedication and hard work. They contributed over 500 volunteer hours, earning the opportunity to own these homes. Attendees were invited to tour the newly constructed homes, witnessing first-hand the collective efforts that brought hope and joy to these families.

Shared Visions and Missions

Reflecting on the event, Habitat Executive Director, Mark Grantham, resonated deeply with our mission. "We are profoundly grateful to Stone Martin Builders and the Opelika community for enabling homeownership for three hardworking families," said Mark. "This ongoing project has made an indelible impact, showcasing the strength of collaboration. The City of Opelika's steadfast commitment to affordable housing, alongside the successful model of Habitat for Humanity, paves the way for a brighter and more inclusive community."

Over the years, Habitat for Humanity has sculpted a model of hard work and dedication. They have consistently transformed lives in Opelika, and we're honored to be a part of this journey. Frank Plan,Stone Martin’s CEO and President, often remarks about our shared mission with Habitat for Humanity: not just building houses, but homes filled with memories.
